Andijan

Andijan is one of the principal cities of the eastern Fergana Valley. It is widely associated with Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur, the writer and ruler who later founded the Mughal Empire, but the city is more than a single historical biography.

Babur and the city’s past

Museums and memorial spaces introduce Babur’s life, literature and political world. Use them as a starting point for understanding how the valley connected Central and South Asia rather than treating the story as an isolated monument visit.

Sacred and community places

Official regional itineraries combine historic sites with mosques, mausoleums and pilgrimage destinations. These places may be active centres of worship. Dress modestly, avoid interrupting prayer, and follow local guidance about photography and access.

Andijan in a valley itinerary

The city works well with visits to Fergana, Margilan, Rishtan or Kokand, but the distances make an overnight stay more comfortable than a rushed day trip. Leave time for markets and neighbourhood food, and confirm train or road arrangements before continuing toward Tashkent or another valley town.
