Termez

Termez stands near the Amu Darya in Uzbekistan's far south. Its archaeological record reflects centuries of movement across the region, including Buddhist communities, later Islamic scholarship and trade connections between Central and South Asia.

Archaeology and sacred places

Fayaz Tepe and Kara Tepe are central to understanding the area's Buddhist past, while the Termez Archaeological Museum helps place individual sites in context. The Sultan Saodat ensemble and the memorial complex of Al-Hakim at-Termizi represent later religious history and remain meaningful devotional destinations.

Plan for distance and heat

Several sites lie outside the modern city and are difficult to combine without a car and driver. Summer heat can be intense, so begin early, carry water and verify access conditions. Border proximity can also affect photography or movement in some areas; follow posted rules and current local advice.
